Botanical Name: Santalum Spicatum – Standard Grade

Description: Sandalwood is an evergreen, parasitic tree that can grow up to 9 meters (30 feet) high.  It has a brown-grey trunk, many smooth slender branches, leathery leaves, and small pink-purple flowers.  It takes thirty to sixty years for a tree to reach full maturity, at which point it can be harvested and distilled.

Blends well with: Rose, Clove Bud, Lavender, Geranium, Vetiver, Patchouli, Jasmine, Peru Balsam, Benzoin, Bergamot, Clary Sage, Coriander, Cypress, Fennel, Frankincense, Galbanum, Myrrh, Palmarosa, Pepper, Peppermint, Spearmint, and Vanilla.

History: Sandalwood has been used for over 4000 years in India, Egypt, Greece and Rome. It was used in building temples and structures, as well as in embalming by the Egyptians,  Due to over-harvesting and the long regeneration period, it is now primarily used for oil distillation.

Common Uses: Sandalwood is used by aromatherapists to combat Bronchitis, chapped and dry skin, depression, laryngitis, leucorrhea, oily skin, scars, sensitive skin, stress, and stretch marks.
