We love tea. Not just any old tea but high-quality organic and sustainably farmed tea curated from remote corners of the world and combined to create unique blends. Searching for caffeine-free alternatives while going through fertility treatment, we realised how many wonderful healthy beneficial teas were around the world from ancient shamanic herbs to ayurvedic remedies.

We enjoy the ritual every day of choosing which tea suits our mood and needs. We created The Tea Thief through our passion for exploring and discovering new blends and herbs.

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, we are dedicated to enhancing lives through experiencing our premium teas.

Our values are to ensure we only buy directly from growers or from suppliers who we know are ethical, with sustainable practices, and to provide organic and wild teas while ensuring every tea is beneficial for your health, body, mind and spirit.

We source wild or organic ingredients from around the world and combine them to create unique blends. These taste great and are designed with therapeutic benefits in mind.

We support sustainable growers.
We work with estates and growers that foster innovation and empowerment, that allow fairness and respect to all workers and that are working on improving the lives of the communities where the products are grown. We look for estates with environmental measures in place that are Rain Forest Alliance members where possible. Our values.

Origin is important to us
We know where each of our teas come from.

Our Butterfly Blue Pea Flowers are farmed and hand picked by families across Thailand, many in remote areas.

The vine is naturally resistant to most pests so no pesticides or chemicals are used apart from smoke-water if needed. This is a natural, non-harmful by-product from making charcoal (an additional income stream for farmers) and is extremely effective for deterring bugs and insects.

The organic ginger and lavender in our Tickety Brew and Cool Brew teas come from a province located in Central China’s Huang He (Yellow River) Valley, which is also widely recognised as the birthplace of Chinese civilisation.

Five UNESCO World Heritage sites are situated in Henan, a historical province steeped in ancient Chinese wisdom and spellbinding scenery.

Our Kashmiri Chai, Revi.Tea.lise and Mr and Mrs Grey are all from tea estates in India.

The green and black teas (Camellia sinensis) are from an organic plantation which adjoins a national park classed as a World Heritage Site.

The spices and herbs are grown locally in India or sourced directly from other growers if not available locally.

The lemongrass in our Cool Brew tea is from Guangxi scenic region in southern China, bordering Vietnam.

In the early 2000s a group of young people in Liuzhou in the southwestern city of Guangxi province founded "Farmer’s Friend". They led local farmers in the fight against chemical fertilisers and pesticides, and championed local, traditional food production techniques.
