The mānuka leaves are scientifically tested for their GABA levels, In the 1990s, German scientists Haberlein and Tschiersch found that certain types of mānuka plants have substances called flavonoids that can affect how GABA works in the brain. GABA is a natural chemical that helps calm down the brain and relax muscles. Other herbal teas like chamomile and valerian can also affect GABA, but not as much as mānuka. In addition, mānuka contains unique antiviral and well being compounds that enhance its health and nutrient profile.
